CUSTOM. PROJECT-SPECIFIC. GLOBAL SUPPLY.

Custom Perforated Pipes for Monitoring & Dewatering

GEOLUR supplies project-specific perforated and slotted PVC, PVC-U and PE/HDPE pipe systems for monitoring wells, standpipes, recharge wells, pumping wells and dewatering projects worldwide.

Product Overview

Custom Perforated Pipes for Project-Specific Groundwater Applications

GEOLUR supplies custom perforated and slotted engineering pipes for groundwater monitoring, water standpipes, open standpipe piezometers, recharge wells, pumping wells, relief wells and dewatering systems. Material, dimensions, perforation geometry, screened interval and connection method are reviewed against the project requirement rather than treated as a one-size-fits-all catalogue item.

Materials

PVC, PVC-U, PE or HDPE, subject to project environment, specification and supply availability.

Perforation

Slots, round holes and project-specific patterns can be reviewed by opening size, spacing, rows and screened interval.

Configuration

Plain riser and perforated/screened sections can be combined to suit the intended well function.

Applications

Monitoring, recharge, pumping, relief and construction dewatering applications, subject to engineering design.

Documentation

Drawings, QA/QC requirements, datasheets and packing requirements should be stated in the RFQ.

Global Supply

GEOLUR, operated by GeoOrigin Engineering Limited, supports project-specific engineering pipe sourcing worldwide.

Important: final pipe selection depends on well design, groundwater chemistry, formation/filter pack, installation depth, mechanical loading and hydraulic function. GEOLUR does not treat one slot size or perforation pattern as universally suitable.

Applications

Where Custom Perforated Pipes Are Used

The same pipe can perform very different functions depending on its screened interval, opening geometry, filter arrangement and hydraulic objective.

Water Standpipes

Plain riser and perforated sections for groundwater-level access within a defined monitoring zone.

Open Standpipe Piezometers

A screened intake section works with the surrounding filter zone to allow groundwater communication with the standpipe.

Groundwater Monitoring Wells

Perforated or slotted pipe defines the interval through which groundwater enters the well for observation or sampling.

Recharge & Relief Wells

Opening pattern and screened length must be coordinated with recharge/relief objectives and formation conditions.

Pumping Wells

Pipe diameter, screen geometry, mechanical capacity and pump arrangement should be reviewed together.

Dewatering Wells

Custom perforated PVC/PVC-U or PE/HDPE pipe may be considered for selected construction dewatering and groundwater drawdown systems.

Customisation

What Can Be Customised?

Exact manufacturing capability is confirmed during quotation. The project RFQ should define the parameters that control installation and groundwater performance.

Material & Diameter

Material, OD/ID and wall configuration are reviewed against project requirements and available supply ranges.

Pipe & Screen Length

Module length, plain-riser length and the perforated/screened interval can be defined by project drawing.

Slot Geometry

Slot width, length, orientation, rows and spacing should be coordinated with formation/filter-pack and hydraulic objectives.

Round-Hole Pattern

Hole diameter, number of rows, circumferential spacing and staggered patterns can be specified where feasible.

Connection Method

Threaded, coupled, welded or other project-specific connections are confirmed according to material and supply configuration.

Accessories

Caps, couplings and other compatible accessories can be reviewed when included in the RFQ.

Configuration Typical Characteristic Engineering Consideration
Slotted Pipe Controlled narrow openings in a defined screen zone. Slot width, spacing, open area and filter-pack/formation relationship.
Round-Hole Pipe Discrete holes arranged by diameter, rows and spacing. Hole size and density affect both hydraulic opening and remaining pipe-wall area.
Custom / Mixed Pattern Different opening patterns or zones along one pipe system. Requires clear drawings, dimensions, tolerances and QA/QC criteria.
Engineering judgement: maximising open area alone is not the objective. Hydraulic efficiency has to be balanced against particle retention, structural integrity and installation loads.

Selection Guide

How to Specify a Custom Perforated Pipe

01

Application

Monitoring, recharge, pumping, relief, dewatering or drainage.

02

Environment

Groundwater chemistry, salinity, contamination context and temperature where relevant.

03

Geometry

Depth, borehole size, pipe diameter, riser length and screened interval.

04

Filtration

Formation gradation, filter pack and particle-retention objective.

05

Hydraulic Duty

Monitoring response, inflow, pumping or recharge objective.

Mechanical requirements
Review external pressure, collapse risk, joint load, handling loads, installation depth and temporary construction loads.
Connection and installation
Connection geometry should suit the pipe material, installation sequence and required joint performance.
Perforation drawing
State slot/hole geometry, rows, spacing, orientation, screened interval and tolerances. GEOLUR coordinates supply review against the agreed requirement; this does not replace the project designer’s engineering responsibility.
Factor PVC / PVC-U PE / HDPE
General behaviour Relatively rigid thermoplastic pipe suitable for many well and monitoring configurations. More flexible thermoplastic pipe with high impact tolerance and broad engineering use.
Typical use Monitoring wells, standpipes, selected recharge, pumping and dewatering installations. Selected dewatering, recharge, environmental and coastal/corrosive applications.
Key review Depth, pressure, joint loading, groundwater chemistry and monitoring objectives. Flexibility, connection, handling, chemistry, temperature and sampling compatibility where relevant.

Engineering Considerations

Perforation, Filter Pack, Flow and Mechanical Capacity

A screened pipe should not be specified in isolation from the material surrounding it. Opening geometry, formation particle distribution, filter pack, well-development method and hydraulic response work together as a system.

Filter-Pack Relationship

Screen opening should be selected in relation to the formation and filter-pack design rather than by a universal slot size.

Open Area & Flow

More opening area can improve hydraulic access, but it also removes pipe-wall material and can affect mechanical capacity.

Clogging & Sediment

Overly small openings can increase plugging risk; overly large openings may allow excessive sediment movement.

Depth & External Pressure

Deep installations require verification of pipe-wall, collapse, joint and handling requirements.

Material Compatibility

Actual groundwater chemistry, temperature and project duration should be reviewed before making a material claim.

Know the Limit

For very high-capacity production wells, a purpose-designed continuous-slot or other specialist well screen may be preferable to simple perforated pipe.

GEOLUR position: custom perforation can solve non-standard procurement requirements, but it does not replace proper well design, filter-pack design, pump selection or mechanical verification.
