Material Choice

A Qatar specification should identify what the pipe must do before it identifies the polymer. GEOLUR does not recommend substituting one material for another simply because the nominal diameter is similar.

Why not use ordinary PVC as inclinometer casing?
A conventional traversing inclinometer probe depends on internal guide grooves to establish repeatable measurement axes. Dedicated grooved casing also requires controlled joint alignment and low twist. Ordinary smooth PVC is therefore not an automatic replacement.
When is HDPE worth considering?
HDPE can be attractive where toughness, corrosion resistance or flexible routing are important. For a monitoring or well application, connection geometry, straightness, structural loading and instrument access still need to be checked.
How should custom perforation be specified?
State the base pipe, OD/ID, wall thickness, screened interval, slot or hole dimensions, spacing, number of rows and any required open area. The filter pack and surrounding formation should be considered at the same time.

Is HDPE always better in saline groundwater?
No single material is automatically best. Chemical resistance is only one criterion. Pipe stiffness, connection, installation depth, geometry, temperature, hydraulic function and instrument access must also be considered.
