CUSTOM. ENGINEERED. PROJECT-READY.
Custom Perforated Pipes for Monitoring & Dewatering
GEOLUR supplies custom perforated and slotted PVC/PVC-U and PE/HDPE pipes for monitoring wells, standpipes, recharge, relief, pumping and dewatering systems, with project-specific geometry and global supply.
Product Overview
Custom perforated pipe systems built around the well design.
GEOLUR supplies project-specific perforated and slotted PVC, PVC-U, PE and HDPE pipe systems for groundwater monitoring, standpipes, open standpipe piezometers, recharge wells, relief wells, pumping wells and selected dewatering applications. The pipe material, dimensions, opening geometry, screened interval and connection method are reviewed against the intended engineering function rather than treated as a one-size-fits-all catalogue item.
PVC / PVC-U or PE / HDPE
Material selection should reflect well purpose, depth, groundwater environment, installation method, mechanical demand and any sampling or chemical-compatibility requirement.
Slots, holes and defined screen zones
Project drawings can define opening type, size, spacing, rows, orientation and the length and location of each perforated interval, subject to manufacturing feasibility.
Pipe, connections and related accessories
GEOLUR can review plain risers, screened sections, compatible caps, couplings and other directly related components as one procurement package where specified.
Applications
Where custom perforated and slotted pipes are used.
The same base pipe can perform very different functions depending on the screened interval, opening pattern, surrounding filter system and hydraulic objective. GEOLUR organises product enquiries around the actual application first.
Groundwater Monitoring Wells
Plain riser and controlled screen sections create the defined intake zone used for groundwater observation, sampling or sensor access.
Water Standpipes
Perforated sections can provide groundwater communication with the standpipe at a selected elevation while the remaining riser stays plain.
Open Standpipe Piezometers
A screened intake section, filter pack and sealing arrangement work together to define the piezometric response zone.
Recharge & Relief Wells
Opening pattern and screened length should be coordinated with the required groundwater recharge or pressure-relief function and the surrounding formation.
Pumping & Dewatering Wells
Pipe diameter, screen geometry, open area, well depth, mechanical capacity and pump arrangement should be reviewed as one system.
Environmental Monitoring
For sampling wells, pipe material and screen configuration should also be checked against the target analytes, groundwater chemistry and approved monitoring methodology.
Customisation
Define the perforation around the project — not the other way around.
Exact production capability is confirmed during quotation. A useful RFQ identifies the parameters that matter to installation, filtration and hydraulic performance so GEOLUR can review a realistic manufacturing and supply configuration.
Material & Diameter
PVC, PVC-U, PE or HDPE base pipe; required OD/ID or nominal size; wall configuration and project-required material grade where applicable.
Pipe & Screen Length
Module length, plain-riser length, transition locations and the total perforated or slotted interval can be defined from the well drawing.
Slot Geometry
Slot width, slot length, orientation, number of rows and spacing can be reviewed against manufacturing capability and the filter design.
Round-Hole Pattern
Hole diameter, row count, circumferential spacing, longitudinal pitch and staggered or aligned patterns can be specified where feasible.
Connection Method
Threaded, coupled, welded or other project-defined joint systems can be reviewed according to base material and required installation method.
Accessories & Documentation
Caps, couplings, drawings, inspection requirements, packing instructions and available manufacturer documentation can be incorporated into the commercial scope.
Specification Framework
Specify the variables that control fit, filtration and installation.
GEOLUR does not publish a fictitious universal size table for a custom product. Instead, the following specification fields should be confirmed against the actual project requirement and the available manufacturing range.
| Specification Field | What to Define | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Base Material | PVC, PVC-U, PE or HDPE; required material grade if specified. | Influences stiffness, flexibility, joining, chemical compatibility, handling and long-term application suitability. |
| Pipe Geometry | OD, ID or nominal size; wall thickness/class; module length. | Controls fit within the borehole, mechanical capacity, pump/sensor access and connection compatibility. |
| Screened Interval | Start/end position and total length of perforated or slotted zones. | Defines where water can enter or leave the well. |
| Opening Geometry | Slot width/length or hole diameter, rows, pitch, spacing and orientation. | Influences particle retention, hydraulic access, open area and remaining pipe-wall material. |
| Connection | Thread, coupling, weld or other approved joint arrangement. | Influences installation speed, outer profile, sealing, tensile transfer and handling. |
| Tolerances & QA/QC | Critical dimensions, inspection method and documentation required by the project. | Defines how the delivered product will be accepted. |
| Packing & Delivery | Bundle/packaging requirements, shipping length, destination and required delivery window. | Long pipe sections and custom screen surfaces can require project-specific protection and logistics planning. |
Engineering Considerations
Screen design is a balance — not a race for maximum open area.
International monitoring-well guidance treats screen openings, filter pack, formation gradation and hydraulic behaviour as interdependent design variables. GEOLUR therefore recommends that perforation geometry be defined from the well design rather than selected from a generic slot-size list.
Filter-Pack Relationship
Screen openings should be coordinated with the formation or engineered filter pack so the well can admit water while limiting unwanted sediment movement.
Open Area & Flow
Increasing the opening area may improve hydraulic access, but removing more wall material can also change the mechanical behaviour of a perforated pipe.
Clogging & Turbidity
Openings that are poorly matched to the filter system can contribute to plugging, sediment entry, difficult well development or unstable monitoring conditions.
Depth & External Loading
Deeper wells and difficult installation conditions require separate review of pipe wall, joint load, collapse risk, handling and temporary construction loads.
Groundwater Chemistry
Material resistance alone is not enough for environmental monitoring; potential interaction or permeability effects may matter where groundwater samples are used for chemical analysis.
Know When Another Screen Is Better
High-capacity production wells, very demanding hydraulic duties or specialist filtration conditions may justify a purpose-designed continuous-slot or metallic well screen rather than simple perforated plastic pipe.
Why not select one universal slot size?
Because the appropriate opening depends on formation or filter-pack gradation, hydraulic objective and the accepted well-design method. U.S. EPA monitoring-well guidance specifically links screen and filter-pack design to formation data and sieve analysis where required.
Why prefer controlled factory perforation?
Factory-controlled perforation makes geometry, location and inspection easier to define. EPA groundwater-monitoring guidance has also recommended factory-slotted screens rather than manual field slotting for monitoring-well construction.
Does GEOLUR replace the project well designer?
No. GEOLUR supports product configuration and procurement review. Final well design, hydraulic design, filter-pack design, pump selection and acceptance criteria remain the responsibility of the project designer and approving parties.
Material Choice
PVC / PVC-U or PE / HDPE?
Neither material family is universally superior. GEOLUR recommends comparing the actual well environment, mechanical demands, connection method, handling requirements and monitoring objective before the product specification is finalised.
| Decision Factor | PVC / PVC-U | PE / HDPE |
|---|---|---|
| General Behaviour | Relatively rigid thermoplastic pipe widely used in well, standpipe and monitoring configurations. | More flexible thermoplastic pipe with high impact tolerance and broad engineering use. |
| Common GEOLUR Use | Monitoring wells, standpipes, open standpipe piezometers, recharge wells and selected pumping/dewatering systems. | Selected deep monitoring, dewatering, recharge, environmental and coastal/corrosive applications. |
| Joining | Threaded, coupled or other project-approved systems may be available depending on supply configuration. | Threaded, mechanical or welded systems may be considered depending on product and installation method. |
| Sampling / Chemistry | Check the monitoring programme, target analytes and chemical environment before specifying material. | Check both chemical resistance and potential permeability effects where sensitive groundwater sampling is required. |
| Mechanical Review | Depth, external pressure, joint load and handling should be verified. | Flexibility, deformation, connection performance and installation loading should be verified. |

Global Supply
Project-specific supply for Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Europe and beyond.
Custom perforated pipe requirements vary by project environment. GEOLUR supports international RFQs where the buyer needs a clearly defined pipe geometry, documented supply scope and coordinated delivery rather than an off-the-shelf consumer drainage product.
Monitoring wells, standpipes and construction groundwater control
Regional projects may combine fine-grained soils, high groundwater levels, monitoring requirements and construction dewatering. Singapore guidance also treats monitoring wells as systems containing both slotted screen and blank riser sections with filter and sealing materials.
Dewatering, recharge and coastal groundwater applications
Deep excavations, pumping systems and coastal or saline groundwater conditions can make material, screen geometry, connection and mechanical verification important procurement questions.
Monitoring, geothermal and engineered well systems
European suppliers and project references show mature use of customised PVC and HDPE screen/casing systems in monitoring, dewatering and geothermal/ATES applications, often supported by detailed product documentation and QA requirements.
International Industry References
What real well-screen projects show about custom specification.
The following are independently published industry references, not GEOLUR projects. They are included because they demonstrate why well depth, geology, corrosion, slot geometry, connection strength and hybrid material choices can change the optimal screen/casing solution.
Rotterdam Markthal: fine sand drove a small slot requirement
Boode reports that the Markthal ATES project used its PVC screen and casing for pumping chambers and wells. Fine sand conditions were one reason the contractor selected a 0.4 mm vertical slot for the relevant diameter. The case illustrates how geology can drive screen geometry rather than catalogue preference.
Independent source →A customised hybrid casing/screen solution for a deep aquifer
In a Vitens Evides International project described by Boode, a PVC casing was combined with a stainless-steel Johnson well screen. The published case describes deep groundwater conditions and a customised thick-walled casing solution, showing that one project may justify combining materials instead of forcing a single-material system.
Independent source →Corrosion and sand ingress changed the screen/casing strategy
Boode describes re-lining twelve seawater supply wells at the Molikpaq offshore platform after deterioration of the original metal system. The replacement used PVC screen and casing with a defined slot size. The reference demonstrates why corrosive water, sediment control and service conditions should be considered together.

Frequently Asked Questions
Custom perforated pipe FAQs.
Can GEOLUR supply custom slot sizes or hole patterns?
Yes, project-specific slot or hole requirements can be reviewed. Final feasibility depends on base material, diameter, wall configuration, opening geometry, quantity and manufacturing method.
Can the screened interval be different from the full pipe length?
Yes. An RFQ can define plain and perforated sections and the start/end position of the screened interval. The configuration should follow the well design.
Which is better: slotted pipe or round-hole perforated pipe?
Neither is universally better. The choice depends on filtration requirements, hydraulic duty, mechanical capacity, manufacturing feasibility, formation/filter-pack conditions and the approved project design.
Can custom perforated pipes be used for dewatering wells?
They can be considered for selected systems where the responsible designer confirms the pipe material, diameter, opening geometry, mechanical capacity, filter design and hydraulic suitability.
Can GEOLUR supply both PVC and HDPE perforated pipes?
GEOLUR can review PVC/PVC-U and PE/HDPE requirements subject to the actual project specification, dimensions, required perforation and available manufacturing/supply range.
Can GEOLUR provide drawings and QA/QC documents?
State the document requirements in the RFQ. GEOLUR will confirm which drawings, manufacturer documents, dimensional records, inspection photos, certificates or other QA/QC records can be included before order placement.
