Engineering Pipe RFQ Guide for PVC, ABS & HDPE

Prepare a clear RFQ for PVC/PVC-U monitoring pipes, ABS inclinometer casings, PE/HDPE engineering pipes and custom perforated pipes with GEOLUR’s practical procurement guide.

Engineering RFQ Guide

A better quotation starts with a better specification.

An engineering pipe RFQ should describe more than material, diameter and quantity. Installation depth, application, connection, screen or perforation geometry, monitoring equipment, ground conditions and documentation requirements can all change the correct supply configuration.

01

Define the Application

Tell GEOLUR whether the pipe is for a monitoring well, standpipe, inclinometer, dewatering well, recharge well, relief well, pumping well or another engineered installation.

02

Define the Product

Specify the required material, dimensions, length, connection, screen or perforation configuration and accessories wherever these are already defined.

03

Define the Project

Include project location, quantities, programme, required documentation, delivery destination and applicable drawings, BOQ or technical specification.

Do not guess missing technical information. If a parameter has not yet been decided, mark it “TBC” and send the available drawing or specification. GEOLUR can then identify the information required to define the supply scope.

PVC / PVC-U RFQ

Requesting PVC monitoring pipe or well screen?

PVC/PVC-U RFQs should distinguish plain riser or casing sections from screened sections and explain what the completed groundwater installation is intended to do.

Well Function

State whether the system is for groundwater monitoring, standpipe measurement, piezometric observation, dewatering, recharge, pumping or another well application.

Pipe Geometry

Provide required diameter, wall requirement, individual lengths, total depth and plain-versus-screened quantities.

Screen Requirement

Specify slot or opening dimensions, pattern, screen length and screened interval where these have been determined by the project design.

Connection

Identify threaded, flush, solvent-weld or other required connection arrangements instead of assuming all PVC well pipe uses the same joint.

Accessories

Include end caps, bottom caps, top caps, centralisers or other accessories required as part of the complete installation.

Site Conditions

Where relevant, state groundwater chemistry, installation depth, borehole configuration and unusual environmental or mechanical conditions.

ABS Inclinometer Casing RFQ

An inclinometer casing RFQ needs monitoring-system information.

ABS inclinometer casing is a precision component of the ground-movement monitoring system. Diameter, internal guide geometry, joint configuration and installation conditions should therefore be considered together.

Monitoring Application

Identify borehole, diaphragm wall, retaining wall, pile, slope, tunnel, embankment or horizontal settlement monitoring.

Casing Diameter

Provide required outside diameter and confirm compatibility with the intended traversing inclinometer probe or in-place monitoring system.

Total Depth

State the depth of each installation and number of installations. Depth affects total casing quantity, connections and installation planning.

Expected Movement

Where available, provide anticipated deformation or settlement information because casing geometry may influence usable monitoring range.

Connection Type

Specify the required quick, flush, external, telescopic or project-defined connection system and any sealing requirements.

Accessories

Include bottom caps, top protection, telescopic sections, installation accessories or other components required by the approved monitoring detail.

PE / HDPE RFQ

For PE and HDPE, define the engineering duty first.

PE/HDPE engineering-pipe enquiries can involve deep dewatering, pumping, recharge, relief, environmental or aggressive-ground applications. A meaningful quotation therefore requires more than a nominal diameter.

Application & Depth

Provide well type, installation depth and the function that the pipe must perform during installation and service.

Dimensions

State OD, ID where critical, wall or SDR requirement if specified, individual lengths and total required quantity.

Hydraulic Requirement

For pumping or recharge applications, include available design flow, pump information and screen requirements where these affect pipe selection.

Connection System

Identify the required connection or joining method and any restrictions imposed by the installation method or project specification.

Environment

Identify unusual groundwater chemistry, contamination, coastal conditions, temperature or other exposure relevant to material compatibility.

Standards & Documentation

Provide the project specification and required standards, inspection records or certification rather than assuming a generic PE/HDPE requirement.

Custom Perforated Pipe RFQ

For custom perforation, send the geometry—not just the pipe size.

The perforation pattern can directly affect the hydraulic behaviour and physical configuration of a well or drainage system. GEOLUR therefore recommends supplying a drawing whenever the requested geometry is project-specific.

RFQ Parameter What to Specify Why It Matters
Base Pipe Material, OD, ID/wall if required and pipe length Defines the basic manufacturing configuration
Opening Type Slot, hole or other specified geometry Different opening geometries serve different hydraulic and project functions
Opening Size Slot width or hole dimensions Must correspond to the approved well, formation or filter design
Pattern Rows, spacing, orientation and distribution Controls how openings are distributed along and around the pipe
Screened Length Length of perforated section per pipe or installation The required hydraulic interval may differ from the total pipe length
Connection Required end/joint configuration Custom perforation does not remove the need to define how sections connect
Quantity Number of pieces or total metres Required for manufacturing and commercial review
Drawing Dimensioned PDF/DWG or marked-up sketch where available Reduces ambiguity in custom-manufacturing enquiries

Commercial RFQ Information

Technical scope and commercial scope belong in the same RFQ.

A technically complete enquiry can still be delayed if quantity, destination or programme is missing. Include the commercial information required to price manufacturing, packing and delivery.

Quantity

State pieces, total metres or both. Where multiple sizes or configurations apply, separate quantities by item.

Destination

Provide country, city and delivery location or nearest relevant port when freight is requested.

Programme

State the required-on-site date or requested shipment date so feasibility can be assessed against manufacturing and logistics.

Trade Requirement

If known, identify requested Incoterm, packaging, shipment mode or other procurement conditions.

Avoid RFQ Errors

Six common RFQ mistakes create unnecessary technical risk.

1. Requesting “PVC pipe” without stating the application
A groundwater monitoring riser, slotted well screen and dewatering well casing are not automatically the same product. Start with the engineering function.
2. Giving only nominal diameter
Nominal descriptions can be interpreted differently between product systems and markets. Where dimensions are critical, provide OD, ID and/or wall requirements from the approved specification.
3. Omitting the connection type
Threaded, flush, external, quick, telescopic, welded and other connection concepts can materially change the product and installation. State the required connection where defined.
4. Asking for perforated pipe without a slot specification
Provide slot or opening geometry, pattern and screened length. If these have not yet been designed, do not select them solely for procurement convenience.
5. Ignoring instrument or pump compatibility
Inclinometer probes, in-place sensors and pumps impose physical requirements on the pipe system. Provide equipment information where compatibility is relevant.
6. Sending the BOQ without the technical specification
A BOQ may contain only a short product description. Where available, attach relevant drawings and specification clauses so GEOLUR can understand the intended technical requirement.

GEOLUR RFQ Workflow

From project requirement to defined supply scope.

GEOLUR uses an application-led approach to engineering-pipe enquiries. The objective is to identify technical gaps before they become procurement or site problems.

1

Send the RFQ

Provide your BOQ, drawings, specification and available project information.

2

Scope Review

GEOLUR reviews the requested product family, configuration, quantities and obvious specification gaps.

3

Clarification

Where necessary, unresolved dimensions, connections, perforation or documentation requirements are identified for confirmation.

4

Quotation

The commercial offer can then be prepared against a clearer and more traceable supply scope.

Why GEOLUR

Procure the pipe as an engineering component—not a commodity description.

GEOLUR focuses on engineered pipe systems for geotechnical monitoring, groundwater observation and groundwater-control applications. This narrower focus allows RFQs to be discussed around how the product will actually be used.

Application-Led Enquiries

GEOLUR separates groundwater monitoring, movement monitoring, dewatering, recharge and other engineering functions instead of treating every plastic pipe as interchangeable.

Focused Product Architecture

PVC/PVC-U monitoring pipes, ABS inclinometer casings, PE/HDPE engineering pipes and custom perforated systems form the core GEOLUR supply architecture.

Project-Specific Review

Drawings, BOQs and specifications can be reviewed as part of the enquiry so the quotation can better reflect the project’s defined requirements.

Custom Requirements

Custom dimensions, perforations, connections or accessories can be reviewed subject to technical and manufacturing feasibility.

International Project Supply

GEOLUR accepts project enquiries for international delivery, with logistics reviewed against quantity, dimensions, packaging and destination.

Engineering Ecosystem

GEOLUR operates within the Geoorigin Engineering Limited ecosystem, linking specialist engineering-product supply with broader geotechnical and monitoring knowledge.

RFQ FAQs

Frequently asked engineering pipe quotation questions.

What information is required for an engineering pipe quotation?
Start with application, material or product family, dimensions, quantity, project location and delivery requirement. Where available, also provide installation depth, connection, screen or perforation details, accessories, applicable standards, drawings, BOQ and technical specification.
Can I request a quotation if the specification is incomplete?
Yes. Clearly mark unresolved parameters as TBC and provide the information already available. For an early budget enquiry, product family, approximate dimensions, quantity, application and destination can provide a useful starting point, subject to later technical confirmation.
What should I provide for an ABS inclinometer casing RFQ?
Provide casing diameter, individual length, installation depth, number of boreholes or installations, required connection type, accessories and the intended inclinometer system where known. Expected deformation and project drawings are also useful where relevant.
What should I provide for PVC well screen pricing?
Provide pipe diameter, wall requirement where specified, plain and screened lengths, slot or opening dimensions, connection type, quantities, accessories and the well application. Attach the well design or specification when available.
Can GEOLUR quote custom perforated pipe?
Custom perforated-pipe enquiries can be reviewed. Provide base-pipe material and dimensions, opening geometry, slot or hole size, pattern, screened length, connection, quantity and preferably a dimensioned drawing.
What information is needed for PE or HDPE engineering pipe?
State the application, material requirement, diameter, wall or SDR requirement where specified, lengths, connection system, installation depth, quantity and relevant hydraulic or environmental conditions. Include the project specification and required standards where available.
Can I send GEOLUR a BOQ for review?
Yes. A BOQ is useful, but relevant drawings and specification clauses should also be included where available because short BOQ descriptions may not fully define the technical requirement.
Can GEOLUR quote international delivery?
International project enquiries can be reviewed. Provide destination, quantity, dimensions, required delivery date and requested shipping or Incoterm information where already defined so logistics can be considered with the quotation.
Should I specify a particular connection system?
If the project already defines the connection, include it in the RFQ. Do not assume that threaded, flush, quick, external, welded or other connection systems are interchangeable; the appropriate system depends on the product and installation.
How can I get the fastest quotation from GEOLUR?
Send one consolidated enquiry containing the product schedule, quantities, project location, required delivery period and all available technical documents. Clearly distinguish mandatory specification requirements from preferences and unresolved items.
